Linear Array with arbitrary amplitude and spacing

 

--> This program module allows the simulation of the radiation pattern produced by a linear array having arbitrary amplitude and spacing.
 

The Planar array parameters panel allows us to select a uniform or a nonuniform spacing

  • if you choose uniform, the distance among the array antennas will be the same. In this case, you have to specify the antennas spacing (i.e., the distance between two adjacent antennas). This spacing has to be specified in terms of a fraction of the free-space wavelength.
  • if you choose nonuniform, each antenna can be moved along the z-axis, specifying its position in the input field Z.
The Antenna excitation panel allows us to select an arbitrary or progressive phase variation, as well as a uniform or nonuniform amplitude.
  • if you choose a linear phase, the phase varies linearly among the array antennas; in this case you have to specify the alpha phase increment. You can indicate this phase increment both in degree or radian.
  • if you choose an arbitrary phase, you can assign to each antenna of the array the desired phase by using the input field excitation (deg. or rad.).
  • if you choose a uniform amplitude, the amplitude of each antenna is set to 1.
  • if you choose a non-uniform amplitude, you can assign the desired amplitude to each antenna of the array by using the input field excitation .
The Antenna parameters panel allows us to select the number and type of radiating elements:
  • The number of antennas along Z can be modified by both inserting its value directly and increasing or decreasing it by using the + or - keys.
  • The type of antennas can be chosen among: isotropic, Hertzian dipole, half-wavelength dipole, cos^n distribution dipole (in the last case, you can specify the order n).
In the bottom left-hand corner you can see a sketch of the position of each antenna on the linear array.

The Radiation pattern panel shows the 2D or the 3D radiation pattern of the specified linear array:

  • In 2D, you can show the radiation pattern in the XY, YZ and XZ plane.
  • In 3D, you can click on the pattern and change the view of the radiation pattern using your mouse.
